About Inessa Khurgel

Russian-born musician Inessa Khurgel is a pianist, musicologist, and teacher. Her music education started at the age of 5, and at age 14 she was accepted to the prestigious Special Music High School for Gifted Children in Minsk, Belarus. She later received her Bachelor of Music in Piano and her Masters of Music in Theory and Music History from Belarus State Conservatory summa cum laude. She was a recipient of an Honorary Internship at the Tchaikovsky House-Museum in Klin (Moscow), where she has had an opportunity to lead tour groups, work with the original Tchaikovsky’s archives and participate in the research projects and museum recitals. Upon graduation, Inessa joined the faculty of Mozyr State Music College, where she taught piano, music theory and music history.

Over the past 20 years, Inessa has developed a private music studio in Irvine, with a focus on intensive one-on-one, as well as group and classroom instructions. She is a member of the Music Teachers’ National Association (MTNA), and the Irvine Branch of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), where she serves on the Board of Directors Committee.

In addition to Piano Performance, Inessa’s studio curriculum includes instruction in Music Appreciation and Music Theory (from the Beginning to Advanced and AP level), Composition and Improvisation. She also offers preparation to the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and CM (Certificate of Merit) examinations.

Inessa is an active member of a local cultural community: she is a founder and an artistic director of the Classical Music Encounters OC (CME OC) - a non-profit concert organization dedicated to the promotion and popularization of chamber classical music and musicians in Orange County. Within the boundaries of the organization, she gives pre-concert presentations on music history and program performed. Also, as part of CME, she organizes music competitions, festivals, and participates in various cultural community events.

Inessa enjoys composing and performing as a chamber musician, accompanist and a lecturer.
